We are looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services to our clients.
Reports to: Executive Director
Responsibilities
- Provide individual therapy on a consistent basis with assigned clients, utilizing bio-psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, according to company policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of care
- Plan and facilitate group therapy, according to the clinical schedule, that is understandable by clients and aligns with treatment plans to ensure effective services are provided.
- Conduct psychosocial evaluation and provide therapeutic interventions to individuals and groups as needed.
- Evaluate the individual and family systems as well as assess the client’s functioning within work, family, and routines of daily living and identify areas needing continued support resources and treatment in order to assist clients.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate care with clients’ treatment team through attendance of staff meetings and through confidential case notes.
- Understand and fully comply with all HIPPA Regulations and consistency guard all PHI.
- Work with each client in establishing an aftercare plan that will set him/her up for the greatest success upon discharge from the program.
- Be available on-call on specified weekends, according to the company’s schedule, to provide services such as crisis intervention or discharge blocking, as needed.
- Attend and participate in all training, meetings, and supervision groups as required by the Executive Director.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily complete job:
- Associates Degree and two (2) years’ experience in a treatment environment for mental health and drug and alcohol issues
- Certification as a CADC I or II approved by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCAA)
- Experience in individual and group counseling.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, and a compassionate nature.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Previous experience working with drug/alcohol population
- Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems.
- Knowledge of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services’ (SAMHSA) best practice indicators
- Interest in treating the underserved, low-income communities is highly desired.
- Able to take initiative and self-direct
- Excellent time management skills
Pay Rate
$17 – $25/ hour, depending on experience.
