The Norooz Clinic Foundation’s Unlocking Stigma Fair, previously known as CAPFair, is a one day event that combine together art and culture as a gateway to bring awareness to the stigmas that surround mental health. We have partnered up with the Orange County Health Care Agency for an even stronger stance in promoting the unlocking of mental health stigmas in the community. We wanted to ensure that everyone from the community is able to participate in this educational, informational, and fun event, so we made it free and open to the public.
We bring in non-profit mental health and wellness organizations around the Orange County area to offer different types of services to the community. We also bring out local talents to ensure that this event is not only informational and educational but also fun and interactive. The main piece of our event is the Unlocking Stigma Hunt, this activity involves participants going around different vendor booths to find “keys” to unlock certain stigmas in mental health, then they would fill out a survey at the end and when they complete the whole packet, they get a raffle ticket to win some awesome prizes.
There have been a total of 4 events thus far at different locations around the Orange County area; the venues include Norooz Clinic Foundation, Mile Square Park, Bella Terra Shopping Center, and Irvine Spectrum Center. The upcoming events for the year 2016 and 2017 will be held on September 28th at California State University, Fullerton and on January 24th at University of California, Irvine. For the September event, we have also partnered up with Active Minds to bring the Send Silence Packing tour, as a part of the CAPFair, to Cal State Fullerton.
