Effective guidance in mental health treatment and substance abuse treatment
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) for Cognitive Functioning is a test that is used to help discover mild cognitive impairments, which can occur early on in many conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington disease, brain tumors, Lewy Body, vascular cognitive impairment, sleep apnea, ALS, heart failure, schizophrenia, head trauma, and several othermental health treatments.
Here at South Coast Counseling, we use it as one of our psychological assessments for clients in our mental health treatment program or those entering substance abuse treatment. In-depth tests enable us to have a better overview of the needs of a client so we can incorporate therapies and treatments that will benefit that individual much more than others.
While some test only uncover advanced problems, the MOCA is different because it catches issues early on before they can be noticed by everyone. This form of screening is beneficial because it can help with early intervention, enabling an effective combination of treatment and prescription drugs to help the client as much as possible at this point of the diagnosis.
